The customary steps were followed, as Mr Raymond guided us through the procedures. As the Chairman, he carried out the Agenda, the very first point being agreeing to and accepting the Name, as per the one suggested and submitted in the Grant Application. This was passed unanimously by the gathered members.
The second most important item was establishing a Bank Account in the Society’s name, to which the cheque for $1000.00 would be deposited. It was agreed to be delegated to the Treasurer once an official committee had been elected and appointed.
The next step was to decide on categories of Membership. They had to be agreed and defined, and membership fees decided upon. This step was also carried out with ease.
By the end of the evening we were able to set up our new Sri Lankan Cultural Society of Western Australia. It must be noted that there was an atmosphere of jubilation with warmth, about 40 people spending the evening sharing refreshments.
